This style of elf has been around since the 1950's.
As to a story, in 1984 (21 years prior) Flora Johnson of Atwater, Ohio wrote a story called "Christopher Pop-In-Kins Pops In". The elf wanted to visit children during the holiday season. Santa grants the elf's wish with the following conditions: Christopher can only visit the children from late November (Thanksgiving) to Christmas Eve. He must then return to the North Pole with a report on his recent visit into the Children's World. Christopher may play hide-and-seek, choosing a new place to hide while the children are asleep. But Christopher can not be touched or he pops back to the North Pole to restore his magic.
The reason for this last condition was Christopher Pop-In-Kins began as a hand-made elf. Flora hand-crafted each elf while her husband hand-published "Christopher Pop-In-Kins Pops In". Flora handmade over 10,000 elves before her death in 2005. Her husband passed away three days later.
The tradition has continued through Flora's son and Pop-In-Kins, Ltd.
Christopher Pop-In-Kins is still available throughout the USA, on Amazon, and at www.popinkins.com
In 2010, in celebration of Christopher's 25th year as Santa's very first Children's Elf, Pop-In-Kins Ltd introduced his baby sister, Christina Marie Pop-In-Kins. This book and elf set was awarded Creative Child Magazine 2010 Holiday Book of the Year.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7667042109292634384.post-24577577935882767482011-01-03T11:40:45.244-06:002011-01-03T11:40:45.244-06:00Never knew the story behind the Elves.
